How are leap years handled?
Correctly. The calculator uses a real calendar, so a person born on Feb 29 ages by exactly one year between consecutive Feb 28/29 birthdays in the right years. Total day counts include the actual number of leap days.
Why does the age in months not equal years × 12?
Months have 28 to 31 days, so calendar months and 'a twelfth of a year' are different units. The 'months' figure counts whole calendar months; the years and days are a separate breakdown.
